Turkey Blither

Turkey Blither

It’s one of those ‘here’s what I did over summer vacation entries,” except it’s “here’s what I did to get ready for Fangsgiving.” It was a busy day. I got the pumpkin pies and cornbread done this morning. Got the mise en place set up for everything else –all the spices and various ingredients. Then I went to get my hair done and brought Tim a pie. I love going to see him and that hair escapade (oh boy is it red now)was what was needed to make it through this week. It was quite nice to be able to spend some time with my Italo Calvino book too, he makes me smile and think.

Got invited to a party while I was there and wanted to go, but there was too much to do tonight. I got home after the hair and the Bean needed to do something that wasn’t being at home. As the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees–it went from 67 this morning to 47 (to 32 now) the park was not the thing. Luckily our friend J called and she was home having a playdate with her daughter and a lovely girl L and her Mom so the Bean and I bopped over and spent a good couple of hours hanging out (well, dolls and dress-up for them, talking and commiserating about demon possession for us). I had a great time and the Bean, oh thank god, the Bean was wonderful.

Got home and OMG it was freezing, like literally–sleet! We scurried and got back to the house and I dove back into cooking. Decided to make another pecan pie–so I could taste the quasi burnt one from yesterday. I am relieved it is good (I used a new recipe) . I had just enough left to make one more, and that looks good.. Took out the pumpkin pie filling I made this morning and , um…sent J out for more pie crusts. I tried to hit the store right after my hair appointment, but discovered I’d been driving around all day without my er, necessary cards. I’m not having good luck at grocery stores recently. I Got the sweet potatoes peeled and cooked. The timing is worked out and I now know that it is good to cook to Zoot Suit Riot.

I hope it all comes off tomorrow. I expect it will. Just have to do a bit of cleaning up and clearing clutter, then start cooking at around 10. The Turkey is brining now.

I have nothing more profound to say than that. I am falling asleep at the computer.
