Why

It's the seventh year of some form of online journal. But times have changed and so have I. I once enjoyed living a wysiwyg life and hiding absolutely nothing. That is not the case anymore. I'm part of a family now and while I enjoy documenting the Bean's life for her friends and family to see, I'm not interested in documenting mine so much anymore--at least in public.

The net was a different place when I started in the late 80's. There weren't many of us on and while I can't say it was better in the good old days; there were fewer people, which meant fewer wankers. I liked it better then than now. I'm getting old.

In 2001 I switched to LiveJournal and while and interesting place and peopled by some great folks, it was too drama laden and intrusive. And it seemed like you just couldn't get away from an ever increasing amount of wankers. And my writing suffered. I didn't string together coherent sentances, I honked and bleated and posted pictures of my cats and darling baby dear. I'm still going to do that, but I'm also going to go back to writing well--something my master's degree in English Lit says I can do.

So a small bit about me:

I really like cats. No I mean I REALLY like cats, better than people

I'm married to the most wonderful man on the planet. We were married in an amazing wedding on Halloween 2000. Several ghosts were invited and did in fact attend.

I'm very very much interested in all things Irish. I've taken classes in the language and need to again.

Did I mention I really like cats?

I have a master's degree in medieval and renaissance literature, that makes me very happy.

Unfortunately, there are no jobs for medieval professors. That is probably the great calamity of my life. Instead of getting a phD I learned networking. It used to be fun. It was very lucrative.

I was into computers in SF before the whole horrid dotcom mess. And I got out to get knocked up right about the time of the crash.

The ocean is proof that there are more things Horatio...

I was of the gothy persuasion subculture wise for many years--that would explain the Halloween wedding

I think entirely too much

James and I have run the most kickass mailing list full of terribly witty and intelligent people. LiveJournal has mostly killed it, but it was great fun while it lasted.

I have some amazing friends. Really amazing, like alert the media and have a parade amazing.

My favorite color is green. My favorite color to wear used to be black.

Strangely enough I really like Hawaii (Kauai) and hope to live there someday.

I like kids, almost as much as cats. And definitely better than many adults.

I find it incredibly amusing that the people who don't like me are so vehement and persistant about it. I also find it somewhat unsettling--really don't they have something else to do? .

I figured out I'm basically a nice person. Neurotic but nice.

I really don't have time for stupid people.

I'd like to take piano or violin lessons. Or the Hammer Dulcimer so I can play at Ren Faires

After 14 years for me and 3 for James we moved out of San Francisco to Chicago. It's a shock but so far a good shock. There is more room, and it is cheaper.

We just bought a house (August 2003) in Barrington. So far so good, even if there are a lot of republicans. We like it more all the time, but are still considering other options.

One day I'll take Irish step dancing lessons. Shut up.

I finally miss the town I grew up in, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

We had our first and maybe only child, The Bean, in April 2002. We love her more than we thought possible and she is the most brilliant, beautiful and amazing girlie ever

There you go. Here's some pictures of me, usually with a cat here.
